Coast Guard medevacs injured man from barge in Gulf of Mexico

NEW ORLEANS — The Coast Guard medevaced a 51-year-old male from a vessel approximately 80 miles south of Gulfport, Miss., Sunday.

Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a call from the vessel Southern Hercules reporting that they had a 51-year-old male suffering symptoms of a stroke aboard an anchored work barge who needed immediate medical assistance.   

Sector New Orleans launched a MH-65C rescue helicopter and crew to medevac the man and the vessel's paramedic, and transported them to the Gulfport Regional Airport where an ambulance was waiting to transport them to Gulfport Memorial Hospital.
